Everything about finding grants and how to write grant proposals that are effective.

From government agencies to private philanthropic groups, technology grant opportunities exist at nearly every societal level.

But there’s a difference between writing a grant proposal and writing a winning grant proposal. The difference is in the preparation.

Below are seven essential elements that you must master to write and get a technology grant.

The Proposal Summary

This section is an overview of your project. At this point, you should have already made sure that existing proposals don’t already exist for similar projects. This section helps you nail down your primary goals.

How do you get the most out of your proposal summary? Write it last. This will ensure that you’ve summarized all the key points in your core proposal. Crucial points to include are a need summary, other funding options, and an impact statement should funding not be met.

The Introduction

You will need to introduce your organization, key players, and organizational goals. The introduction should also be specific to your project’s funding. Grant funding entities shouldn’t have to wade through thick introductions which don’t have relevance to your funding.

and i dont want a long drawn out answer, lol. imisidro
Im interested in starting computer training for my community? I also do well in marketing, graphic design, psychology/sociology, and music… so what ya suggest?

Here are some sources:

Federal grants to nonprofits (technical assistance and services) or search by Beneficiary –> non profits http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.FUNCTIONAL_PROGRAM_TXT_RPT.SHOW?p_arg_names=func_cat_cd&p_arg_values=CS

Foundation Center (subscribe to them for one month and mine their database as much as you can) http://fconline.fdncenter.org/

Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/citizenship/giving/
Provides support to Community-Based Technology and Learning Center (CTLC) organizations including Nonprofit—in the United States, 501(c)(3) designation—or a nongovernmental organization; Government funded and operated—a nonprofit organization that receives government funding or is a partner with a governmental; and schools.

A non profit I helped that provides computer training (similar to what you are envisioning) got Microsoft to provide computers and software for free. Verizon provided the DSL for free. Check corporations such as Dell Foundation http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/corp/foundation/en/index?c=us&l=en&s=corp

Hope that is short enough for you :o )

What is a grant writer supposed to do?
What kind of writing is involved in grant writing? Is there some site where i can get samples of such writing for non-profit groups? Thanks

The main task is to write and develop grant proposals. This entails consulting, utilizing needs assessments, and brainstorming workable solutions, as well as cultivating goals and objectives. You will match project needs with available funding and the process normally involves preparing and writing documents for submission, proofreading, submitting to the funding source and follow-up.

Here are some resources where you can learn about grant writing and find samples of grants

I need to write a grant proposal to be able to get the money to take my research to the next step. I think I know the basic elements of the proposal, but I don't know how to start, or how to put it together. I'm feeling a little lost.
The guidelines (for this particular grant) state that it should not be more than 3 pages long.

Your proposal should follow a good format, and be easy to read and navigate. I would recommend the following format:

I. Title Page (Proposal Name, author, organization, date)

II. Table of Contents

III. Executive Summary (short and sweet, no more than one page summary of the entire project/proposal)

IV. Introduction

V. Situation Analysis

VI. Description of the Project/Research

VII. Deliverables

IIX. Budget

IX. Appendix (letters of support, research, etc.)
