We’re searching around for grant opportunities in order to help our organization get started (we’re a residents/merchants assoc. with an eye on improving community development). Most of them require you to be a non-profit and right now, we’re not. Is it a requirement to be a non-profit? Are there grants available to non non-profits? If so where can I find them – my research hasn’t unearthed any opportunities for us without 501(c)3 status.

Thanks in advance!

Government and foundation grants typically require 501(c)3 status to apply. Some private grants might not.

Does any one have a grant proposal already prepared for a non-profit therapeutic riding center. I have a program in need of funding and since I do work full time and take care of the horses in my spare time lol…I don’t have time for grant writing classes. Why re-invent the wheel any way right? The goal is to help the kids is there anyone willing to help me do that? Thank you! Also if you are feeling generous all donations are tax deductible :)
FYI I have a 501 c 3 or else I wouldn’t be asking but thanks

Consult local charities in your area to see if they have any sample forms. I’m sure there’s plenty on the internet but you’ll have to tailor it to your purpose.

Also, I wouldn’t run around soliciting donations unless you have the 501 (c)3 (I think is the correct legal term) and a charity number.

Whether a grant proposal is funded quite often depends on the reviewers. Suppose a group of research proposals was evaluated by a group of experts as to whether the proposals were worthy of funding. When these same proposals were submitted to a second independent group or experts, the decision to fund was reversed in 30% of the cases. If the probability that a proposal is judged worthy of funding by the first peer review group is .2, what are the probabilities of these events?

A.Worthy Proposal is approved by both groups
B.Worthy proposal disapproved by both groups
C.Worthy proposal is approved by one group

A. Worthy Proposal is approved by both groups| .2*.7 = .14
B. Worthy proposal disapproved by both groups| .8*.7 = .56
C. Worthy proposal is approved by one group| 1 – (.14+.56) = .3
