When going to your congregation, don't stress the need -- stress WHY the music equipment, building, etc., will help you reach more people with your message. Federal grant money is available for some programs that are based in religious institutions, but these programs must address a particular non-religious issue (drug use, for instance) and need to be well established, well-run, with excellent financial records and a proven track record of results.
